Stanley Cursiter

Born in Orkney.Studied at Edinburgh College of Art. Director of National Galleries of Scotland 1930-48 after which he was appointed King's Painter and Limner in Scotland. Series of Futurist inspired works painted after seeing Futurist Exhibition in London in 1912. Also watercolour and oil landscapes, particularly of Shetland and his native Orkney. Solo exhibition at The Scottish Gallery in 1946 and Memorial Show in 1979.

Cursiter will feature in an Orkney exhibition in October 2014, where more work will be available to view.
