Shoreline

Shoreline - a showcase from jeweller Heather McDermott who takes inspiration from the Isle of Skye where she lives and works.

The shoreline provides a treasure trove of unique objects discarded from the urban environment and deposited by the power of the Hebridean swell. These inspirational scenes are developed and translated in her work and each piece is designed to create a statement. Stainless steel and silver are hand-formed into soft geometric shapes mimicking fishing nets and lobster pots and are embellished with simple vivid discs of colour inspired by weathered, washed up buoys.

“Growing up on the Isle of Skye enabled me to spend a lot of time on the beach. I live in a remote area of the island where the beaches are wild and deserted. I love the way the landscape of the shoreline changes on a daily basis and how the power of the Hebridean sea deposits weathered objects on the beach. I love the rawness of the shoreline.”
