Tommy visited Philip Braham’s exhibition Closer to Home
which has just opened at Perth Museum and Art Gallery. The collection of paintings and photographs look sensational in the grand setting of the public gallery’s inner rooms. The body of work was inspired by the artist’s recent move from Edinburgh to Crieff and represents a process of exploring and discovering the ‘new’, but ancient landscape of the area. The exhibition also includes two earlier works from Braham’s Ophelia series, providing further insight into the artist’s ongoing engagement with the profound within the landscape.
Closer to Home was first hosted by The Scottish Gallery in January 2021, but due to lockdown restrictions no one was able to visit. We are delighted that this important body of work will now be available to be viewed by the pubic for the first time. Philip Braham is an RSA Guthrie Award-winning artist and Programme Director for Art and Philosophy at Duncan of Jordanstone College. Braham has exhibited with The Scottish Gallery since 1984 and Closer to Home presented his sixth solo exhibition with us.
We are very grateful to Philip Braham, Perth Museum and Art Gallery, and the lenders of the paintings for their support with the exhibition. The show runs until 6th June 2021 and you can plan your visit here.
