This February we are escaping the Scottish winter with our joint exhibition Two Hemispheres, featuring work from glass artist Amanda Simmons and willow artist Lise Bech. Amanda brings us a new collection transporting us to sunnier climates. Enjoy our short film below as Amanda Simmons welcomes us into her studio where we focus on pieces from her Southern Hemisphere Collection.
Amanda SimmonsSouthern Hemispheres is a constantly morphing perspective of Australia as I begin to know her better. The colours have changed from bright, pastel contrasts through to the current pieces in a darker palette. It is a collection that I continue to play with as it has no set constraints.
Amanda SimmonsI experienced light and colour in a different way, alien-like botanics and other worldly landscapes whilst traveling across the country. It felt good to be somewhere new and to see things differently, such an array of new experiences to try to convey in glass.
Amanda SimmonsIn this collection I'm mainly focusing on contrasting colours and to move that across the surface of the piece. The space I leave in the design creates light, this is a continuing fascination in all my work but especially in this series because of how light hits the globe in the different hemispheres.
Two Hemispheres runs until the 27th of February and Amanda’s full collection can be viewed online here.
