Kate Blee

Kate lives and works in London. Commissions include The Welcome Trust, Portcullis House Westminster Parliament, Girton College Cambridge, The NHS Trust. Her work is held in the collections of The Victoria and Albert Museum, The Crafts Council, The Arts Society and The Financial Services Authority. She was awarded RDI by the Royal Society of Arts in 2015.

Kate Blee is an artist internationally recognised for her work with textile. A passionate materialist and colourist, her work is dynamic – concerned with movement, forces and interactions. She has a close relationship to architectural space and to domestic and material engagement. The work is robust, tactile and active – observant of nature and rooted to a form of gestural abstraction. She allows the forces of gravity, osmosis, friction and drying so that, to a great extent the work is left to make itself. In a rejection of control, it is a co-creation, expressive of an infinite cycle of care.
