Robert Hardie Condie was a talented Scottish artist, best known for his evocative landscapes in oil and watercolour. Condie’s artistic journey began at Edinburgh College of Art, where he honed his skills and developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of Scotland’s diverse landscapes. From 1928 until his retirement in 1963, Condie served as the Art Master at Brechin High School, where he nurtured the artistic talents of many young students. His passion for both teaching and creating art left a lasting legacy, and he was admired for his dedication to the craft and his influence on the next generation of artists.
Condie’s artistic focus was primarily on capturing the breathtaking Scottish landscape, whether it was the serene beauty of the countryside or the small-town boat scenes that characterise Scotland’s coasts. His paintings, created in both oil and watercolour, showcase his mastery of light, texture, and colour, bringing the natural world to life. In 1959, Condie was elected a member of The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolours. His works continue to be celebrated for their timeless quality and their ability to evoke the essence of the Scottish landscape.
