A Visit to Angie Lewin in Speyside

12 August 2026

Last week, Christina Jansen visited Angie and Simon Lewin at their beautiful home in Speyside, ahead of Angie’s forthcoming exhibition at The Scottish Gallery this October.

Christina was given a tour of the garden and polytunnel, abundant with tomatoes, giant dahlias and produce ready for the kitchen. Inside, the planting continues, with an impressive collection of houseplants and pelargoniums filling the rooms.  Angie and Simon had just completed a photoshoot for a forthcoming magazine article exploring their home, garden, books, and Angie’s paintings and prints.  Their home is full of art and objects gathered over many years. Paintings, prints and pots by fellow artists and former tutors sit alongside works by artists past and present, as well as antique, vintage and contemporary finds. Everything feels naturally integrated into their shared life in Speyside.

The garden is equally important. Christina enjoyed plenty of food grown just outside the door, and throughout the visit it was easy to see how the plants, landscape, objects and changing seasons that surround Angie Lewin find their way into her watercolours and printing practice.  Here are a few photographs which offer a window into Angie and Simon’s life in Speyside, and the environment that continues to feed Angie’s practice – as well as a taste of what we can look forward to at The Scottish Gallery this autumn.
