Past It – signs, symbols, mottoes and slang
A deep sense of history runs as a clear and consistent thread through the work of ceramic artist Katrin Moye. Her pieces draw on references to European Delftware, Italian Majolica, and French Faience pottery, while forms such as albarello jars, syrup jars, frilled pedestal bowls and ornate snake handled shapes evoke a pre-industrial age when skilled hands worked in kitchens, apothecary shops, and gardens. Richly detailed and hand-painted, Moye’s ceramics capture these historical influences, which she playfully contrasts with a wicked sense of humour.
