Light & Air
Matthew Draper is a master of capturing light. Or the lack of it. In Light & Air he eloquently portrays transient moments between day and night and between squalls and sunshine in expansive pastel landscapes of the Highlands. He continues to push the boundaries of his chosen medium, honing a technique which involves crushing, mixing and sanding back layers of pure colour on the paper in a process which is both delicate and gestural. Draper has also applied these new techniques to a dramatic series of Edinburgh cityscapes, recorded from his kitchen window during winter in lockdown.
