Redbraes Pottery

Redbraes Pottery

Redbraes is a production pottery studio based in the Scottish Borders led by Nicholas Stenhouse & Heather Wilson, ceramics graduates from Cardiff School of Art & Design. The studio was set up in 2022 as part of the artist community surrounding the Marchmont Estate. The former garage in the small village of Greenlaw, a few miles from Marchmont, was repaired and redesigned by The Hugo Burge Foundation. The new space was purpose built for production pottery and also hosts a range of workshops and open access sessions.

‘Our pots are wheel thrown and high fired in gas reduction using a palette of iron rich glazes. We make practical, refined wares for the table and kitchen which carry the ruggedness of the Scottish landscape that surrounds us. We use the gentle texture of raw burnished stoneware to balance with the smooth, glossy finish of the glazed surfaces. Every pot passes through both potter’s hands at different stages of the process, adding to the timeless, handmade quality of small batch production’. – Nicholas Stenhouse & Heather Wilson
