The Marchmont Workshop

The Marchmont Workshop

The Marchmont Workshop is run by Richard Platt and Sam Cooper based in the grounds of Marchmont House in the Scottish Borders. Renovated as part of the Marchmonth Creative Spaces project by Hugo Burge, Marchmont provided the perfect environment to launch their own venture, continuing the legacy of Lawrence Neal; the last full time rush seated chair-maker in the UK.

‘Equipped with knowledge and patterns passed down from 5 previous generations of chairmakers, we hit the ground running… The upgrade in space also allowed us to expand on our repertoire, making tables and other furniture inspired by the designs of Ernest Gimson and the Arts and Crafts movement. One of our first large orders being to kit out the new Common Room in the Creative Spaces for a growing community of artists to enjoy.’
