Tom Hovell Shanks

Tom Hovell Shanks was born in Glasgow in 1921. After war service Shanks took the diploma course at Glasgow School of Art and graduated in 1950. He worked as a freelance mural painter, designer and printer with Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh and as a teacher for the Glasgow School of Art. Shanks was an accomplished painter in watercolour, pen and ink, mixed media, and his primary subject and love was landscape painting of the western highlands.
