Easing out of the Lockdown

29 April 2020

Art Galleries and Museums may be the first to have restrictions eased in the coming weeks and months and we are currently working out how to plan for hosting appointments only with social distancing in place. It is up to us to create a safe environment for the team, for artists and gallery friends.

ONLINE

We are currently working hard to be inventive, inspiring, bringing art to you online; we want to bring the artists and their art to you. We are grateful for all the positive feedback we have received so far and we will keep experimenting and investing in ideas, technology and communication.

Virtual events

We’re already been experimenting using Zoom to test out live, virtual events. Our meet the artist and private view this week have proved to be a positive starting point. These may prove a vital and permanent lifeline for gallery friends over the coming months. The most positive aspect of our virtual events is that they are inclusive and from the comfort of your own home.

Please sign up and join in. It’s the closest thing we are going to have to a private view for some time and watch this space as we experiment with the medium. You are a vital part in making this a success.

Virtual tours. We will be adding additional films to allow greater visualisation of artwork within the gallery space.

Virtual appointments. You can call, write and email us. We can video call you to say hello and bring the art to you, in a safe and personal way.

Watch Tommy Zyw hang some of the work from Ross Ryan’s May exhibition Batten Down the Hatches. We may be closed temporarily but we hope you enjoy seeing this (almost) virtual tour of The Gallery.

The Gallery - update

To begin the process of operating face to face, we are taking the first baby steps by working out how to work as a team together in The Gallery, with a half team approach: half remotely and half in The Gallery.

Our gallery administrator, Lisa Muxworthy is now in the office 9.30-4pm Monday to Friday to answer calls, facilitate enquiries and take safe deliveries. Lisa can transfer calls to Gallery Directors, Christina Jansen, Tommy Zyw and Kirsty Sumerling.

ENQUIRIES AND VIRTUAL APPOINTMENTS

Right now we are still in lockdown and like you, we are reading and listening to government advice. All we can do now is act and adapt as and when it is safe to do so. We are working towards hosting appointments of two people maximum in The Gallery, and we will let you know as soon as this is possible.

It is currently more challenging to transport artwork but we are working with logistics and work is being delivered to The Gallery. We are therefore able to hang and present art work within The Gallery, allowing us to share images and film with you.

If you wish to enquire about a work then please do contact us. You can call, write or email and in return we can send you images, film clips and video call you to bring the art to you in a safe and personal way. We look forward to a time when we can open by appointment only but for now we are working hard to provide you with information virtually.

We hope to see you virtually and eventually in person!
