Emily Sutton has designed a beautiful, fold out, limited edition invitation for People and Places which we are selling to raise money for The Supper Collective. We loved seeing how this incredible invitation came together and thought we’d share Emily’s artistic process and working methods below. Please also discover more information about The Supper Collective, the charity which Emily has chosen to support.
Emily SuttonI love using hand lettering in my work and am very inspired by the graphic works of artists including Barnett Freedman and Eric Ravilious, as well as beautifully designed Victorian ephemera and old shop signs. For my invitation artwork I decided to use an entirely typographical approach.
Emily SuttonAs with all my lettering I began by roughly sketching the layout in pencil before carefully refining and spacing, then used a dip pen and watercolours to create the finished piece.
Emily SuttonI have chosen to sell a limited number of these invitations to raise money for a brilliant charity in my home town of York. The Supper Collective is a group of York independent businesses working together to deliver free meals to those in the area who are isolating, vulnerable or homeless as well as to NHS workers. All of the members are putting in so much time, love and energy to provide this great service in the community and I’d love to contribute even in a small way.
The Supper Collective
Emily has chosen the wonderful Supper Collective to benefit from sales of this fold out poster. They are now available to purchase online for £5, with £4.50 being given directly to this incredible charity. The Supper Collective is a collective of local independent restaurants, cafes and bakeries safely delivering free nutritious meals for the vulnerable, isolated, NHS and the homeless across Emily’s home town, the city of York.
Julia Holding, The Supper CollectiveOur mission is to prepare and distribute a total of 100 meals per day, 60 to anyone isolated or homeless, and approximately 40 to the incredible front line workers at York district hospital.
