Often hailed as a champion of modern jewellery, we celebrate the life and work of Wendy Ramshaw, CBE, RDI (1939-2018) with a memorial exhibition this June. Her Room of Dreams will explore key periods throughout her career. The Scottish Gallery exhibited some of her most ambitious ideas through exhibitions such as Picasso's Ladies (1989), Rooms of Dreams (2002), Prospero's Table (2004) and A Journey Through Glass (2007). Exhibitions such as Room of Dreams, were designed and curated to act as a theatrical stage set for the jewellery. Ramshaw's signature ringsets are represented in over 70 public collections worldwide and her work continues to delight and intrigue with the Goldsmiths Company acquiring a key piece, the Three Cone Necklace, for their collection in 2020. Her work was not only confined to the realms of contemporary jewellery, but also encompassed designs for textiles, screens, gateways and sculpture. She pushed the boundaries of jewellery, sculpture, installation and design, working in materials that ranged from precious stones and metals to paper, plastic, porcelain and glass. This exhibition celebrates the life and work of this champion of modern jewellery.
