Drawing on The Scottish Gallery’s long association with Joan Eardley, Christina Jansen offers an insider’s view of the artist’s work in Townhead and Catterline. Through the paintings and drawings Eardley exhibited at the Gallery, archive material and the public and private collections that acquired her work, the talk will explore what happened during her lifetime and how audiences responded to her work. It will also reveal some of the stories behind the exhibitions, sales and relationships that helped establish Eardley’s reputation, offering a more personal perspective on one of Scotland’s most important twentieth-century artists.
