Michael McVeigh’s second exhibition at The Scottish Gallery develops one of the central themes that are so memorable from his inaugural show. Focussing predominantly on Edinburgh, the mood of the paintings shifts between a visionary tone with evocations of folk art, Surrealism, and social commentary. The results allow us to see Edinburgh afresh, and through the eyes of a painter with a unique interpretation of urban living with its layers of subcultures and traditions. In this exhibition Saints, Souls and Sinners McVeigh has focused his attention on the churches of Edinburgh and their position in city life.
