We are delighted to share Katie Watson’s first solo exhibition with The Gallery this April, Nature in Detail.

Katie Watson graduated from The Glasgow School of Art’s Silversmithing & Jewellery department in 2018. Her work has already gained attention, receiving numerous awards from the Goldsmiths’ Craft and Design Council.

MARCHMONT SILVERSMITHING WORKSHOP

On 25th March, Kirsty and Ruth visited the new Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop at Marchmont House, where Katie is now based.

All the tools now in the workshop were once the late silversmith Graham Stewart’s. The workshop is a new home for silversmiths in the Scottish Borders built around the generosity of Graham Stewart and his family.

Katie’s work starts with a walk through woodlands, along the coast and across mountains – mainly around her hometown of North Berwick and The Isle of Arran in Scotland. On these adventures she draws and studies anything that captures her imagination. Using silver as a canvas, Katie begins drawing onto the metal surface using chasing and repoussé to produce wonderlands of nature in unique pieces of silverware and jewellery.

Katie’s exhibition, Nature in Detail, runs until 29th April 2023, and her work can be viewed here.
