Lost Boat Party | The Media Response

24 June 2021

We are so pleased to share some of the coverage that Lost Boat Party has received in the press with you.

The Times

His work is set out in the balcony of the Dovecot Gallery and the natural light adds to the eerie atmosphere of these expertly crafted paintings. In Pink Flats, Jock McFadyen has relocated a classic Brutalist block to a waterside setting. Both elements exist, but not together. Humanity and nature, starkly juxtaposed. Tiny figures on the rooftop look outwards. Are they lost or contemplating the future?

The Herald

The Mallaig Commission, based on one of McFadyen’s paintings, and created by weaver Louise Trotter, is a gorgeous, deep blue thing with pops of colour.

McFadyen is clearly thrilled by it. “I am really fond of the tapestry because it’s quite blobby. She’s interpreted it quite loosely, which I like.

“There’s spontaneity in paint because it moves fast. And what they do here is quite deliberate and it solidifies what was once fluid. They make it still and exact and something quite amazing happens. I don’t quite know how it happens, but there’s a freezing of action.”
