Enjoy some of the familiar faces modelling Malcolm Appleby’s Time Lines. We know them all, but do you?
Meet the models, including Guy Peploe, Christina Jansen, Tommy Zyw, Misun Won, Abigail Davidson and Natasha Huq, and enjoy a few behind-the-scenes photographs and memories from the shoot.
All photographs taken by Gabi Silveira and makeup and hair by Heather Snowie.

Christina Jansen, Managing Director, The Scottish Gallery
I love wearing Malcolm’s jewellery and have bought it regularly for family and friends too. I have a gold Hawthorn ring and a beautiful brooch which I treasure. His pendants are a sure-fire win present, particularly to mark a new baby: buttons for boys, pendants for girls. It’s a pleasure to model his jewellery. I’m in my fifties and I like showing how effortless Malcolm’s jewellery is to wear at any age. There’s no time to be self-conscious on a photoshoot anyway: I’m watching the daylight and the clock, while Gabi Silveira takes wonderfully natural photographs. If I want to Photoshop myself, I just take my glasses off!

Tommy Zyw, Director, The Scottish Gallery
For almost twenty years, I have worn and enjoyed a pair of Malcolm Appleby cufflinks, gifted to me by The Scottish Gallery following a summer internship in 2009. They have become a treasured possession. Over the years, as I have come to know Malcolm and his practice through my time at The Gallery, my appreciation for them has deepened.

Misun Won, Jeweller
As a jeweller myself, it was such a pleasure to be asked to wear Malcolm’s work by The Gallery. There is something very special about being able to handle another maker’s jewellery, look closely at the engraving and craftsmanship, and then simply enjoy wearing it. The whole day was great fun and very relaxed, with plenty of laughter and Stanley wandering onto the set whenever he felt he deserved to be included!

The Banchory Bangle Photograph
Our Banchory Bangle photograph has become something of an iconic image. The idea was simple: stack as many bangles as possible across five of us. The reality required rather more flexibility, patience and the ability to hold very still while Gabi Silveira worked her magic! The arms belong to Guy Peploe (one arm only!), Tommy Zyw, Christina Jansen, Abigail Davidson and Natasha Huq. Phew.

One bangle, more than 30 designs and a wonderful tradition.
Each year Malcolm creates a new Banchory Bangle, engraved with his observations of the natural world and raffled in aid of Children First. What began when Malcolm lived at Crathes on Deeside has become a much-loved annual tradition and, together, the bangles form a remarkable record of his engraving across the decades.
