London Art Fair 2020 - Pat Douthwaite23 Jan 2020
Hello from London Art Fair!
The Scottish Gallery presented a Pat Douthwaite exhibition at London Art Fair 2020.
Pat Douthwaite: The Outsider celebrates the life and work of one of the most talented, difficult and enigmatic painters of the latter 20th century. The exhibition covered all periods of her extraordinary life, from the swinging sixties of London and Cambridge to Mallorca and Edinburgh and the final peripatetic years when she found new subjects and media.⠀
Following a busy install day, the exhibition opened on Wednesday 21st and continued until Sunday 26th January.
The Scottish Gallery has collected works from throughout Pat Douthwaite's extraordinary life, from the swinging sixties of London and Cambridge to Mallorca and Edinburgh and the final peripatetic years when she found new subjects and media.
Douthwaite's work can be seen as a powerful crie-de-coeur, as insistent as Bacon or Freud, and her career, which might have invited the success and international recognition enjoyed by her contemporary Paula Rego, was instead blighted by illness and bad luck.
Pat Douthwaite: The Outsider presents a range of major works, some for the first time, including a group of previously unseen drawings, which should generate considerable interest in this unique artist.
On Thursday 23rd January, Guy Peploe presented a well received talk on the life of Pat Douthwaite. We also welcomed a number of people for valuations.
