‘We are thrilled and delighted to be adding Dorothy Hogg’s Gold Tipped Brooch to the Goldsmiths’ Company Collection.

In the strength and simplicity of its design and its carefully considered relationship to the wearer’s body, the Gold Tipped Brooch is a fabulous example of Dorothy’s exacting craftsmanship and her sublime mastery of the hollow form.

It will make a wonderful partner to her musical Bangle with 100 Rings, which is already a valued part of the Collection. The Goldsmiths’ Company collection is a working collection of silver and jewellery; pieces are not only worn, used and exhibited but also used to teach and inspire apprentices and makers. Dorothy’s work is especially relevant to us in this sense as she is not only an extremely significant maker in her own right, but through her teaching she has inspired many other makers represented in the Collection.

Dorothy’s Gold Tipped Brooch will be one of the highlights of our upcoming exhibition 'The Brooch Unpinned' opening in April at The Goldsmith’s Centre. The display features brooches from the Company Collection from 1961 to the present day, illustrating the importance of the brooch form to the development of modern and contemporary art jewellery.

We are very glad to have been able to make such an important and exciting acquisition through our ongoing relationship with The Scottish Gallery.’ - Dr Frances Parton Deputy Curator, The Goldsmiths’ Company.
