On Friday 27 February, The Scottish Gallery proudly hosted its first-ever Paralympic Pom-Pom Knit & Knatter !
The occasion marked the exciting announcement that Tommy’s brother, Davy Zyw, has been selected to represent Team GB at the upcoming Winter Paralympic Games in Cortina, Italy. A true family affair, Tommy and Davy’s mum and aunt, Jenny and Lesley Brown alongside The Gallery, rallied an enthusiastic army of knitters to create supporter hats for the friends and family travelling to cheer him on. Close to 40 hats, complete with blue pom-poms, have now been lovingly handmade.

The Gallery was alive with the clicking of needles, lively conversation, and exceptional coffee generously supplied by brother Sorley’s roastery, Carter Coffee. Impressive knitting prowess was on display, with some participants picking up needles for the very first time that morning. Whether seasoned crafters or complete beginners, everyone was united in their support of Davy and Team GB. The event created a welcoming platform for many to show their encouragement — people who might otherwise have missed the chance to be part of the Paralympic journey. The event even captured the attention of the international press, who plan to film the hats in Cortina!

In a special moment, Davy even FaceTimed into the gathering live from a training camp in Switzerland, bringing smiles all round. Together, we raised just over £900 for My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, adding further meaning to an already inspiring day.
