A rare Elizabethan or James VI carved oak marriage chest c,1600 – 1620, featuring an unusual single plank top inlaid in holly and bog oak with M V and a six pointed star. The star inlay is probably secular and decorative, being too early to be religious or Masonic. The letters are likely to represent the first names of the betrothed. The hinges have been replaced.
