Inspired by stone objects found scattered in fields on many local walks across the Peak District, their purpose forgotten, and now form a part of the natural landscape, where hard worked edges have been softened and weathered over time. A small window frames the land beyond – it is left to the viewer to interpret the artefact’s purpose.

Oliver Cook (b.1992, Bristol) creates abstract sculptures and vessels in alabaster, a material whose translucency allows light to become an active element within the work. Self-taught, his practice has developed through a sustained engagement with making, evolving from wood, ceramics and metal into a focused exploration of stone.
