A Studio Practice / Lines & Lineage
A dual exhibition catalogue to coincide with our July 2017 exhibitions 'A Studio Practice' and 'Lines & Lineage.
A Studio Practice brings together four senior Scottish artists: Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, Elizabeth Blackadder, Frances Walker and Victoria Crowe. During long and distinguished careers their work has always looked forward and they have all embraced change, new experience, collaboration and experimentation. All are best known as painters but have had substantial commitments to printmaking.
Lines & Lineage is an exhibition that brings together three Scottish tapestry weavers: Jo Barker, Sara Brennan and Susan Mowatt. All three trained at Edinburgh College of Art and continue their studio practice in Edinburgh today. Each artist in their own distinct way explores colour, tone and material. The artists have a conceptual and abstract approach to their medium which is bold and beautiful and their tapestries are a sensual as well as a visual experience. Weaving is a slow pace medium within a fast pace world, inviting the viewer to pause for a moment.
