A Breath of Fresh Air

30 September 2021 - 23 October 2021

For his first solo show with The Scottish Gallery, A Breath of Fresh Air, Robert Innes has synthesized his learning and experience at The Glasgow School of Art with time spent working in the Highlands of Scotland and the South of France, to prove himself to be the genuine article: a plein air painter with something to say about the world around him.

This group of work focuses on simple still lifes; the harbour towns of the East Neuk and particularly the West Coast of Scotland, its sparkling beaches and hazy vistas.

Born: 1964
Place of Birth: Kirkcaldy

Robert Innes is a plein-air landscape painter, born in Kirkcaldy, and trained at Leith School of Art with Mark and Lottie Cheverton and The Glasgow School of Art with James Robertson. He has been a full-time painter since his sell-out degree show in 1994. Exhibitions followed including in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Lyon, Aix-en-Provence and London. His works are represented in private and public collections locally and around the world, notably Kirkcaldy Art Gallery and Stirling University.

This extract from a review in France succinctly sums up his work (Le Progres) “This love of nature, it is also the love of life, its perpetual movement, and it is this which springs out of all his paintings.”
