Miniature Masterpieces is Miyu Kurihara’s first solo exhibition with The Gallery. Miyu draws on her Japanese heritage and is inspired by Kimono design and ancient Asian ceramic forms. She works in porcelain and stoneware; each work is made by hand or is hand thrown and the surface is individually drawn and painted in intricate, beautiful detail.
Kurihara learned brush techniques and textile design in Japan and London; she uses traditional blue and white porcelain processes originating from China and Japan. Miniature Masterpieces features a menagerie of creatures from owls and peacocks, to tigers and leopards. Her work is intimate, playful and is a celebration of heritage and a dedication to her craft.
