Shorelines and Horizons

27 September 2023 - 28 October 2023

The Gallery presents an intimate exhibition by Hannah Mooney, Shorelines and Horizons which explores a variety of coastlines and loughs around County Mayo in Ireland, including Bertra Strand, Lough Mask, Mulranny and Clew Bay. Also featured are paintings of Lough Swilly in County Donegal where Mooney grew up. Both parts of Ireland serve as important visual backdrops to her sensitive work.

The larger scale allows me to make more gestural marks and explore the expressive horizons of paint. The more gesture involved, the more meaningful and personal the mark becomes. For this reason, I have captured particular landscapes such as Lough Mask in Mayo, which possesses its own set of enigmatic undertones, energy and spirit.  I revisit frequently in order to observe its unpredictable nature, dark and menacing moods.
