We are delighted to present Transience, a new body of work by Duncan Shanks in his twelfth exhibition at The Scottish Gallery.
My subject is nature and the Transience of Nature. To find that which endures in that which fades. To paint not just the objects, not just the tree, the flower, the cloud and the bird, but how they move and change in time.
Recording this constant change, day after day, year after year, has determined my approach to painting, forcing me to find methods and procedures to deal with the dichotomy between the transient and the permanent. In my enclosed, riverside garden, I watch and note the continual cycle of loss and renewal.
