Geoff Uglow is a British painter, born in 1978 in Cornwall. He studied at Falmouth and graduated from the Glasgow School of Art in 2000. The Scottish Gallery has represented Geoff Uglow since the late 2000s. Beyond the Clouds includes works from a series made in Edinburgh both past and present as well as his spectacular Rose Garden paintings.
Beyond The Clouds reviews Uglow’s formative years working in Edinburgh, applying the sophistication garnered in the Roman Campagna to readdress his subject led now by atmosphere, by the happenstance of how a particular morning light falls on familiar stone. It is the third state he seeks: from the solidity of the observed architecture, through the fluidity of his medium, to the atmosphere created.
