Carrick is the ceramic practice of Scotland-based maker Aimee Holt, who creates hand-thrown and hand-built ceramics from her home studio in East Lothian.
The name Carrick, meaning “rock”, is taken from the coastal region near her hometown in rural Galloway, where her connection to the landscape first took root. The raw, elemental beauty of Scotland’s coastline continues to inform her practice. Weathered rock formations, the muted palettes of land and sea, and the textures shaped by the natural environment influence the colour, surface, and finish of each piece.
Working with a minimal aesthetic, Aimee embraces traditional methods of making, allowing each piece to retain the subtle variations that come from being made by hand. Areas of unglazed clay are often left exposed, revealing the natural material and lending an earthy, tactile quality that echoes the rugged Scottish landscape.
Her ceramics are intended to be quietly functional, becoming part of the rituals of everyday life. Each unique piece invites a slower pace and a deeper connection to landscape, craftsmanship, and the enduring beauty of handmade objects.
