Jessie M. King was one of Scotland’s most celebrated designers and illustrators of the early twentieth century, associated with the Glasgow Style and the wider Celtic Revival movement. Alongside her husband, the painter and designer E. A. Taylor (1874–1951), she shared a longstanding friendship with S. J. Peploe, his wife Margaret, and their sons, Willie and Denis. The families became especially close during the years both couples lived in Paris between 1910 and 1913, and the friendship continued throughout their lives. Their children, including the Taylors’ daughter Merle, also remained closely connected.
