Michael Lloyd | The Beauty of Rain & Other Cherished Observations

Michael Lloyd

Born: 1950
Place of Birth: Salisbury

Born in 1950, Michael Lloyd studied at Birmingham and the Royal Colleges of Art. Since the late 1980s he has lived and worked in South West Scotland. Michael describes himself as a compulsive maker. Certainly, his beautiful, chased silver and gold vessels illustrate a profound understanding of both material and techniques. Inspired by the natural world, his work becomes, in his own words β€˜an act of homage both to our landscape and to our increasingly fragile sense of creativity.’ His commissions include work for York Minster and Lichfield Cathedral.

Public Collections include:

Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths, London; National Archives of Scotland, Edinburgh; Crafts Council, London; Birmingham City Art Gallery; and Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge.

Michael Lloyd’s solo exhibition, The Beauty of Rain & Other Cherished Observations, featured as part of our programme of Festival exhibitions in August 2016 and in June 2020 we celebrated Michael’s 70th birthday with a special collection of new work – Reflections | Michael Lloyd at 70. Michael’s work featured in Malcolm Appleby & Friends, August 2021.
