The Scottish Gallery is happy to present Silver Threads, the third solo presentation by Edinburgh based jeweller, Ruth Leslie.
Inspired by the subtle details within fabrics and the intricate construction of textile machinery, Ruth creates stunning jewellery which imitates the movement of fabric in metal. In this latest collection, Ruth has explored scale and proportion within her designs, challenging herself to create smaller elements in her signature twisted silver threads. Working on a ‘dinkier’ scale has opened up the possibilities of repetition – using multiple hand-crafted units to create a larger design. Sustainability is also an important factor for the artist, who has chosen to work mainly in recycled silver.
