Una Shanks

Una Shanks studied textiles at Glasgow School of Art from 1958, joining the innovative department led by celebrated designer Robert Stewart. Her early training in pattern, structure and decorative design continues to resonate throughout her painting practice, where intricate surface detail and luminous colour are central to her work. Following graduation, Shanks held a number of teaching posts, including at Jordanhill College and Hamilton College, before taking early retirement in 1982 to devote herself fully to painting.
