William Drummond Bone

1907-1979
William Drummond Bone

Working in both oil and watercolour, Bone is known for his expressive landscapes of the Scottish countryside, especially Ayrshire and the west coast. His paintings, characterised by confident draughtsmanship, vigorous brushwork and an instinctive response to light and atmosphere, often depict farmland, moorland and mountain scenery. He also produced notable wartime watercolours and occasional portraits and still lifes.
