The Worshipful Company of Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers (GSWD) has collaborated with The Scottish Gallery on a special exhibition of new work by six outstanding Freemen of the Company. Selected for their strong connections to Scotland through training and practice, these artists represent an exceptional breadth of contemporary talent, bringing fresh innovation to one of the world’s oldest precious metal crafts. Their work reflects the strength and vitality of Scotland’s making culture today.
The Gold and Silver Wyre Drawers is one of the City of London’s ancient Livery Companies, formed in 1623 to regulate and promote the important craft of producing exceptionally fine threads composed of gold and silver. Today, the Company comprises over fifty Freemen, including jewellers, silversmiths, and embroiderers, all recognised for their innovative and accomplished use of precious metal wire.
