Mily Possoz was a Portuguese artist of Belgian origin, regarded as one of the most prominent figures of the first generation of Portuguese modernist artists. In her youth Possoz attended the watercolour studios of Enrique Casanova and Emilia dos Santos Braga, and encouraged by them and her father, continued her artistic training in Paris. She attended the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Montparnasse, where she developed an interest in the avant-garde. Upon her return to Lisbon she joined the emerging modernist movement in Portugal. She started to exhibit at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes (Society of Fine Arts) in 1909 and regularly exhibited at their annual salons. She worked in oil, pencil, watercolour, gouache and engraving, and as an illustrator and designer.
