Created for the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, The May Garden was specially commissioned for the Down’s Syndrome Scotland Garden, designed by Nick Burton and Duncan Hall. The garden was conceived to challenge prejudice and celebrate the qualities often associated with people with Down’s syndrome – including joy, empathy, mischief and compassion. Angie Lewin’s print reflects the spirit of the garden’s naturalistic planting and features on the cover of the official planting guide. The project brought together designers, horticulturists and individuals with Down’s syndrome in a collaborative and celebratory endeavour.
I was honoured to be asked to create a new screenprint reflecting the spirit of the planting that Nick and Duncan selected for their first Chelsea garden. The finished screenprint, ‘The May Garden’, features on the cover of the planting guide that you can collect when visiting the garden. Angie Lewin
