Kinetic Rhythm

30 November 2018 - 22 December 2018

Anna Gordon presents a solo exhibition of new jewellery for Kinetic Rhythm. Anna Gordon graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 1994 and has been the Head of Silversmithing and Jewellery design at Glasgow School of Art since 2009, alongside creating her own work. Anna’s jewellery is made predominately of precious materials, including oxidised silver, 18ct gold, and platinum.

“I am constantly influenced by my surroundings. Sometimes it is considered, and other times these influences only become recognisable on completion of a piece. These include nature or architectural detail, as well as everyday objects found around my home and workshop. Each idea is sketched, in two and three dimensions, and although I use a lot of geometric shapes in my work, I make each piece by hand in order to retain the spontaneity of the drawings and models. I am interested in drawing and the quality of the drawn line. I see pieces of jewellery as a sketch on the body, repeated units that move and change as the pieces are worn. I enjoy the changes to a piece as the light plays on it, creating a shadow on the wearer or catching the brightness of an edge.” Anna Gordon, 2018.

Born: 1971

Anna Gordon has worked as a jeweller since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1994. Her jewellery is made predominately of precious materials, including oxidised silver, 18ct gold, and platinum.

“My inspiration comes from my environment and contrasting opposites. Black and white, hard and soft, natural and man-made, delicate and strong. I use these ideas to create pieces that can be enjoyed by the wearer and the viewer alike, the oxidised surfaces appearing as linear sketches on the body.”
