John Brown returns to The Gallery this November with his latest exhibition, The Kasbah and Souks of Marrakech. Often inspired by foreign travel, this exciting body of new work captures the life and character of Marrakech, where Brown visited in the winter of 2022. Brown was particularly drawn to the labyrinth of medieval streets in the Medina for subject matter, where he watched and drew every day, absorbing the atmosphere of the bustling marketplace. Brown’s practice is characterised by a rich and vibrant palette and varied use of media, including collage, which the artist incorporates to push his imagery toward abstraction.
Following the Moroccan earthquake of September 2023, Brown has created a special work Marrakech Hope which will be sold on behalf of the Morrocco Earthquake Appeal for the British Red Cross.
